Dear Trail Running Friends!

In November 2009, we conducted the WINDSTOPPER® TRAILRUN WORLDMASTERS for the first time: An ambitious 65 kilometres run (40 miles), on three consecutive days, in the center of the industrial Ruhr area, over marvelous trails - right through the forests of southern Dortmund.

Dortmund was very consciously selected as our location for this unique event. This city, throughout its history, has represented hard labour and authenticity. A city which stands for renewal in tough times and for motivation. A city also, where we find not only numerous engaged runners as in the entire Ruhr Basin, but also almost unlimited possibilities for running near the city AND in natural surroundings. We are fully convinced this type of running has a bright future. The more we are all influenced by our urban life - the traffic, the time pressure, and the heavy daily workload - the more important it is to practice a sport, to provide the right counterbalance. And running in nature - on cool and quiet trails, through the woods and along the rivers and lakes - that seems to us to be a most appropriate supplement to maintain a healthy balance.

It was certainly not what I had expected when I first heard about the event. The inaugural Windstopper® Trailrun Worldmasters weren't held in some picturesque, quaint village with a postcard scenery backdrop, nor was the title a reference to an age group competition. Instead this three day event was set against the backdrop of a former blast furnace in the industrial suburbs of Dortmund and Worldmasters, translated from the German Weltmeisterschaft, could also have read Worldchampionship.

Volgende maand staat er een nieuw evenement op de programma voor de duurloper die op zoek is naar was afwisseling. De Worldmasters Trailrunning wordt van 6 tot en met 8 november georganiseerd in het Duitse Dortmund. Niet de eerste plek waar je aan denkt bij trailrunning. Het is geen tocht door afgelegen bossen en velden maar een race door het industriële landschap van het Ruhrgebied. De heuvels rondom de stad bieden een fascinerende afwisseling tussen stad en natuur. Zo speelt een hoogoven de hoofdrol in de eerste etappe.

Hello Trail Runners!
I didn’t think of Ruhrarea or Dortmund as trail running destinations, until I personally traveled with the organizer to Dortmund to sit in on the route selection. This is an area with a great diversity of trails, and I am now excited to have added the WINDSTOPPER® TRAILRUN WORLDMASTERS to my personal running calendar!

She´s best on the street, but likes running in the country most: top-athletes Luminita Zaituc is looking forward to a further sportive challenge after the athletics championship in Berlin. The multiple German champion in marathon and cross running would like to contest the three different stages of the WINDSTOPPER® TRAILRUN WORLDMASTERS 2009 in november in Dortmund.
